Clay has always considered Cache Valley home. Raised in Logan by a hard working single mother, he grew up understanding what it meant to work for what you have. There weren't shortcuts—just consistency, effort, and a quiet expectation to take care of your own. That mindset stayed with him.

He was also shaped by the people who showed up. His grandfather, who ran a local service station, believed in treating people better than expected—especially when you're stepping into their home. It wasn't something he preached, it was just how he lived. Clay paid attention, and that approach to service would later become a cornerstone of his own business.

After high school, Clay wasn't interested in taking a traditional path. Looking for direction and something that would push him, he enlisted in the Navy as a machinist's mate. There, he learned discipline, structure, and how to work with complex mechanical systems—experience that unexpectedly laid the groundwork for a future in plumbing. It wasn't easy, but it gave him a level of resilience and skill he hadn't had before.

When Clay returned to Logan, he got to work in the plumbing trade and quickly found his footing. Around that same time, he married his high school sweetheart, Heidi. Together, they built their life the same way Clay was raised—with hard work, patience, and a long-term mindset. They focused on building something stable, both for their family and their future.

By 2005, after years of hands-on experience and plenty of side jobs, Clay made the decision to start his own company. Canyon Plumbing began as a one-man operation, built on reputation, word of mouth, and a commitment to doing the job right. Growth came steadily over time—not from chasing it, but from earning trust and building relationships.

The name "Canyon Plumbing" came from a simple family conversation, but it stuck because it meant something. The canyons were where Clay spent much of his time growing up—learning independence, solving problems, and developing a deep appreciation for the outdoors. In a lot of ways, those experiences shaped the kind of person—and business owner—he would become.

Today, Canyon Plumbing has grown into a trusted local company, but the foundation hasn't changed. It's still about showing up, doing quality work, and treating people with respect. For Clay, the goal was never just to build a business—it was to build something lasting, something rooted in the same values he was raised on. And that's exactly what Canyon Plumbing continues to be.
